However, for a touring escort (meaning that she's not dependent on getting regulars in one place) that sort of an advance payment seems a huge temptation to cash in and disappear.

Summary. Some escorts, like a lot of people, are ethically challenged. Most punters are not prepared to go to the police, and the police may see it as a civil, not criminal, matter. Breach of contract in other words.
